Screening for the Undiagnosed Diabetes Mellitus Patient and its Relationship to the Oral Health Status in a Dental School Setting

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: Healthy | Diabetes
  • Age: Between 30 - 100 Years
  • Gender: Male or Female

Inclusion Criteria

Patients of Indiana University School of Dentistry.
Have had a comprehensive examination in the past two years or a periodic oral evaluation in the last six months to determine the oral health conditions at Indiana University School of Dentistry (including periodontal diagnosis and DMFT status) in the AxiUm database. NOTE: a periodontal diagnosis will not be required for edentulous subjects. 
Subjects willing to have the HbA1c Point of Care Testing performed.

Exclusion Criteria

Self-reports a diagnosis of Type I, Type II, or gestational diabetes mellitus.
Received diabetic screening test within 6 months and is aware of diabetic condition (self-reported).
Currently pregnant
Presenting with sickle cell disease, HIV, renal failure, infectious diseases, those undergoing hemodialysis or erythropoietin treatment, or whom have had significant blood loss or transfusion.
