Overview

The purpose of the study is examine the effect of learning a second language, in this case Russian, on brain structure and function.

Description

Volunteers who are right-handed native English speakers learning Russian for a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) study of the brain. You should be in good health, have normal vision and hearing (or corrected to normal), and over 18 years of age.

Study length:  1.5 hours.

Participants will be paid $25 for an MRI scan and the completion of a survey and tests.

Eligibility

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    Healthy
  • Age: Between 18 Years - 100 Years
  • Gender: All

Inclusion Criteria
All subjects will be  adult native English speakers who are right-handed with normal or corrected normal vision and hearing.  Additionally subjects must be a learner of Russian.
Exclusion Criteria
Having metal implants that are unsafe for the MRI
Claustrophobic
Weight greater than 400 lbs
Currently pregnant
