Overview

The purpose of this study is to investigate the ability to detect deviations from the natural timing patterns of spoken sentences.

Description

The purpose of this study is to assess listeners' sensitivity to speech timing.

Eligibility

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    healthy
  • Age: Between 18 Years - 90 Years
  • Gender: All

Inclusion Criteria
Both normal-hearing and hearing-impaired individuals
Must be native speakers of English
Must have normal tympanometry as determine by the IU Hearing Clinic protocol
Must have a passing score on the Mini-Mental State Exam
Must have the ability to understand and sign the consent form
Exclusion Criteria
Currently have any indication of a medically or surgically treatable ear-related condition
Have known fluctuating or rapidly progressive hearing loss or vision loss
Have any cognitive, medical, or language-based condition which may limit ability to complete all test procedures
Currently taking any of the following medication(s): Cisplatin for cacner; life-saving Mycin antibiotics
Have multiple sclerosis
Have Meniere's Disease
