PrecISE: Precision Interventions for Severe and/or Exacerbation-Prone Asthma

Study Overview

PrecISE is a multi-site study, sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. We are inviting people to participate in PrecISE who: 1) are age 12 or older, 2) meet guideline criteria for severe asthma, 3) currently have uncontrolled asthma, or continue to have exacerbations (attacks), and 4) are on a stable regimen of asthma medications (controller/daily medication).  We will find out if you qualify for the study after you finish the screening tests.

Study Description

This study is designed to investigate new treatments for asthma that are thought to work better in some patients than in others.  The data from this research study will be used to determine which treatments work and what kind of patient benefits the most from that treatment.
If you choose to take part in the study, you can receive several different treatments depending on when you begin the study. You will take each treatment for about 4 months, and then take a break for 2 to 4 months, before starting another treatment.  The study will run for about 3 ½ years, and most of the people participating in the study will go through 2-3 different treatments before finishing the study.

Additional Information

PrecISE is a network of leading universities, medical doctors, and scientists dedicated to helping people living with severe asthma. The two goals of PrecISE are to (1) evaluate exciting new treatments for severe asthma and (2) find patient subgroups for which these treatments work the best.
