Understanding and Investigating the Problem of Lead in St. Joseph County, IN - Screen Your Home for Lead for Free

Study Overview

SCREEN YOUR HOME FOR LEAD FOR FREE!

DO YOU LIVE IN ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, IN? DOES YOUR HOME HAVE LEAD IN IT?
Environmental lead is currently an issue in many cities throughout the United States. Exposure to lead can lead to harmful, irreversible effects on a child's brain and body. While removing all lead from homes is not possible due to the financial cost and labor required, there are other manageable things that everyone can do to make their homes "lead-safe."
Researchers at the University of Notre Dame are offering free lead screening kits to households in St. Joseph County, IN to find out more about about how lead may be harming children and families in their homes.
It is the goal of ND Lead Innovation Team to give community members the knowledge and ability to fight this issue and protect families from lead.

Study Description

The Notre Dame Lead Innovation Team is offering free lead screening kits to families.
The Lead Screening Kit provides supplies to collect paint chips, house dust, and soil from your home.  The samples are then returned to our lab for analysis, which takes 2-4 weeks.
We will send you a report  that explains the meaning of the lead levels from the different locations sampled. The report provides information on steps you can take to minimize lead exposure and how to access resources and services through the Saint Joseph County Health Department and the City of South Bend.
