VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR STUDY ON BOWEL HEALTH!

Overview

DID YOU KNOW?  Short chain fatty acids are produced by bacteria in your gut and may play an important role in health and disease.
 
Researchers are Indiana University are looking for volunteers to participate in a study on bowel functions in order to evaluate the production of fatty acids in stool after a one-time ingestion of a dietary fiber supplement.
 
Your participation may help researchers learn more about bowel health and how it relates to medical conditions, such as diabetes.

Description

What is Involved During Study Participation

Online Screening Evaluation (30 minutes)
  • Explain study procedures and obtain informed consent
  • Collect baseline data on demographics, medical history, medications, baseline dietary data
In-Person Screening Visit 1 (Day 1; 15 minutes)
  • Take vitals
  • Study materials provided, including a stool container, bowel diaries and inulin supplement for you to take home
At Home (Days 2-5)
  • Take a one-time dietary fiber supplement
  • Complete diet and bowel diaries
  • Collect stool samples using the provided kit and instructions
In-Person Visit 2 (Day 6; 15 minutes)
  • A study team member will coordinate a time with you to drop off your collected samples and completed materials
Incentive/Compensation
  • You will receive up to $50 in gift cards in total for completing all of the study tasks

Eligibility

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    healthy
  • Age: Between 18 Years - 75 Years
  • Gender: All

Inclusion Criteria:
  • Adults ages 18-75
  • Generally healthy
Exclusion Criteria:
  • History of gastrointestinal (GI) disease
