DO YOU HAVE HIGH CHOLESTEROL? Join Our Avocado and Heart Health Study!

Overview

Researchers at the Indiana University School of Public Health are inviting adults to take part in a study to see how eating an avocado on a daily basis affects blood cholesterol values.

Adults ages 21-74 who have high triglycerides (cholesterol) are invited to participate.
 
Your participation will help researchers to determine whether replacing solid fats and added sugars in your diet with avocado improves cholesterol in individuals with high triglycerides.

You will be compensated for your time and all study food will be provided at no cost to you.

Description

What is Involved
  • You will be asked to attend 11 visits to University Hospital in Indianapolis, IN over a 10-week period
  • Clinic visits will last between 1 ½ to 4 hours.  
Your participation will include:
  • Measurements of your height, weight, blood pressure and heart rate
  • Providing blood samples
  • Taking a liquid meal replacement test
  • Following the study diet and instructions
  • Completing a food log and physical activity questionnaires
Compensation
  • You will be compensated for completing the study visits
  •  All study food will be provided at no cost to you

Study Title:  A Randomized, Controlled-feeding, Double-blind, Crossover Study to Examine the Metabolic Effects of Replacing Energy from Solid Fats  and Added Sugars (SoFAS) with Avocado in Men and Women with Elevated Triglycerides

Eligibility

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    healthy,obesity,high cholesterol,diet,nutrition
  • Age: Between 21 Years - 74 Years
  • Gender: All

Additional Inclusion Criteria
Exclusion Criteria
  • Have diabetes
  • Current smokers
  • Have difficulty with blood draws
