Changes in running form with running experience and age

Study Overview

ARE YOU A RUNNER? Join Our Study!
Researchers at Indiana University are looking for adults to take part in a study to determine the effects of age and running experience on running biomechanics.
Participation involves a one-time study visit to the IU Bloomington campus which includes a running gait analysis and a survey about your physical activity behaviors.
Your participation will help us to to learn more about whether a runner’s age and running experience affects their running form and their ability to respond to running stresses/loads.

Study Description

Who is Eligible
  • Adults age 18-30 OR age 45-65
  • For Newer runners: running for less than 1 year, completing 3-13 miles per week
  • For Experienced runners: running for more than 1 year, completing 9-30 miles per week
  • Must be willing to attend a study visit at IU campus in Bloomington, IN
What is Involved
(1) You will be asked some screening questions to determine if you are eligible to participate.
(2) If you are eligible and choose to participate, you will be asked to do the following:
  • Attend a single in-person visit (2-3 hrs) at IU Biomechanics laboratory in Bloomington, IN.
  • Completing questionnaires about your running history, health history, and your physical activity levels
  • Body composition measures for body fat mass and lean mass
  • Gait analysis to examine your running form.
Benefits of Participating
Participants who complete all aspects of the study will receive:
  • $30 Target gift card
  • detailed running analysis report (a $100+ value)
