Overview

The purpose of this study is to evaluate your walking pattern versus other patients with total knee replacement who may or may not have similar knee issues. We would like to investigate whether there is any association between your walking pattern and how you feel at your knee joint.

Description

The specific goal of this project is to elucidate neuro-motor abnormalities which may be responsible for lack of sufficient movement (stiffness) or otherwise cause excessive movement (instability) at knee joint following TKA.

Eligibility

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    total knee replacement,healthy,1808894264
  • Age: Between 40 Years - 81 Years
  • Gender: All

Inclusion Criteria
Unilateral or bilateral knee joint replacement, with well-functioning knees, complaints of joint stiffness, and knee joint instability
Able to walk 10 meters without assistive devices
No history of other lower limb surgeries except Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA)
No rheumatoid arthritis, stroke, spinal cord injury, head trauma, peripheral diabetes or any other kind of neurological disease that can significantly influence the nervous system or gait pattern

OR

Un-injured controls
Younger than 40 or older than 70
Without history of lower limb surgeries or any other musculoskeletal disease
Without any neurological disease that can influence the nervous system or gain pattern

Exclusion Criteria
TKA patients diagnosed with infection, leg mal-alignment, implant dislocation, implant fracture or loosening, patella mal-tracking, peri-operative fracture or nerve injury as these conditions can significantly influence knee joint function
Patients unable to walk for at least 10 m without assistive devices.

Participants will be compensated for their participation.
