The Genetics of Late Onset Alzheimer's Disease

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
Conditions: Alzheimer's Disease
Age: Between 60 - 100 Years
Gender: Male or Female
A family consisting of a pair of affected, sampled siblings, one of whom must have a diagnosis of definite Alzheimer's Disease, onset at age 60 or older and the second sibling must have a diagnosis of definite, probable or possible Alzheimer's Disease, onset with AD at age 60 or older Also, a third biologically related family member with either: a) onset of dementia or AD at age 50 or older; or, b) a normal cognitive evaluation and age 60 years or older.
The second study sample is a control sample.
Criteria for Controls:
Minimum age for controls is 60.
No subjective complaints of memory loss or cognitive decline
Absence of cognitive impairment must be documented within the last year either by neuropsychological testing or semiquantitative neurological or psychiatric examination.
Controls should not have a history of major neurological or psychiatric disorders and no life-threatening conditions.
Controls should not have a current diagnosis of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, OCD, or anxiety/panic disorder.
Controls should not have a current diagnosis or history of PD, AD, MS, brain tumor, and HD.
1st degree relatives of individuals diagnosed with dementia can qualify as controls. 2nd and 3rd degree relatives are acceptable.
