Massage Therapy for Phantom Limb Pain: Feasibility and Pilot Study

Study Overview

The purpose of this study is to see if massage therapy applied to the opposite limb of an amputation combined with mirror therapy is effective in reducing phantom limb pain

Study Description

This pilot study seeks to establish massage therapy efficacy for this population as a first step to a larger research program which seeks to develop effective self-applied touchless/virtual massage therapy for this population. Ultimately, we are establishing a research program that will focus on the development and testing of novel technology to provide accessible and effective massage treatments to populations who for whatever reason are unable to access direct touch massage.
