Overview
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the benefits of a mentoring program using principles of Positive Youth Development on adolescents and young adults with chronic illness, their families, and their providers.
Description
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the benefits of a mentoring program using principles of Positive Youth Development on adolescents and young adults with chronic illness, their families, and their providers. We are seeking to establish the Teen Leadership Council group, designed to give teenagers with chronic illness an opportunity to improve the healthcare of themselves and their peers.

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

Chronic illness

Age: Between 13 Years - 18 Years

Gender: All
Inclusion Criteria
Adolescents with chronic medical condition
iabetes
Parents/guardians of the adolescents
Young adult mentors will be 18 or older or in college or early in their career and they also must also have a chronic medical condition
Residents from the triple board, psychiatry, and pediatrics programs
Post-doctoral psychology interns
Medical students can participate as facilitators on a case by case basis
Exclusion Criteria
Subjects with psychiatric conditions better served in another milieu, including functional/non-organic illness, and eating disorders, intellectual disability affecting ability to function in a group setting, or with unstable psychiatric concerns (suicidal, homicidal, etc) better served in an acute setting.
