Overview
I am interested in how starting off in an economically disadvantaged group or an economically advantaged group, or moving between these groups, affects attitudes about and policy preferences toward the disadvantaged group. I hypothesize that people who are randomly assigned to the disadvantaged group, and made to believe that through hard work they have moved into the advantaged group, will hold more negative attitudes about the disadvantaged group and will be less likely to support policies designed to assist the disadvantaged group.
