Looped Versus Linear Ureteral Stent Self-Extraction String

Overview
This study will assess whether having looped strings or linear strings makes a difference in how often ureteral stents are removed or dislodged by accident.
Description
Patients consented to and enrolled in this study will undergo ureteroscopy (URS) with ureteral stent placement as part of their clinical care. Participants are randomized into two groups before the procedure, with one group receiving a looped extraction string and the other receiving a straight extraction string. The participants will all receive a phone call 15 days after stent placement to determine if it was accidentally removed, had to be removed due to complications, or removed at the recommended time.
Eligibility
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

Conditions:
Ureteral Stent, ureteroscopy, URS

Age: Between 18 Years - 100 Years

Gender: All
Inclusion Criteria:
- Participant is undergoing ureteroscopy (URS) for ureteral or renal stone with ureteral stent placement
- The URS (ureteroscopy) goes smoothly without complications and the estimated self-extraction time is no longer than 2 weeks after placement
- Participant is able to read English language
- Doctor indicated that the participant will be able to remove stent at home
Exclusion Criteria:
- Younger than 18 years old
- Complications require the stent to be removed earlier than expected
- The participant has an indwelling nephrostomy tube
- Planning a bilateral ureteroscopy or a subsequent staged ureteroscopy
