Primary Investigator
Overview
The purpose of the study is to demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of a chemical prophylaxis to reduce the incidence of Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) in high risk pediatric trauma patients. This study will help understand which pediatric trauma patients would benefit from VTE prophylaxis by validating screening criteria.
Description
This study will be a two part study. The first part is an observational study for data collection of pediatric trauma patients admitted to participating centers for two years. All pediatric trauma patients who present at participating institutions will be screened to determine whether they are at low risk or high risk for developing VTE. No procedures will be performed for research purposes only, and all data collected will be from standard of care procedures.
In the second part of the study patients participate in a 30 day follow up telephone call or email to determine if there were any delayed findings of a VTE.
