What is this study about?
This study aims to understand how often patients develop diabetes mellitus after acute pancreatitis and understand its clinical characteristics. It also aims to identify risk factors that predict the development of diabetes mellitus.
Description
What happens during the study?
- Researchers will review the participant's medical record after the participant provides informed consent.
- Participants may undergo three research visits and can opt in to visits on an annual basis.
- Researchers may ask the participants for health history information, perform a short physical exam, collect a copy of CT or MRI/MRCP scans from the patient's clinical care of acute pancreatitis, and have labs drawn.
- Participants may undergo a mixed meal tolerance test, an oral glucose tolerance test, and a Feasibility of Intravenous Glucose Tolerance Test.
Eligibility
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

Conditions:
Acute pancreatitis, diabetes

Age: Between 18 Years - 75 Years

Gender: All
Inclusion Criteria:
- Diagnosis of Acute Pancreatitis within the past 90 days
- Participant fully understands and is able to participate in all aspects of the study, including providing informed consent, completion of CRFs, telephone interviews, metabolic testing, and planned longitudinal follow-ups.
Exclusion Criteria:
- Patients with Chronic Pancreatitis
- Hospitalized for <48 hours with Acute pancreatitis
- Pancreatic tumors
- Prior pancreatic surgery, including necrosectomy of the pancreas
