Transgenerational Depression and Adverse Childhood Experiences among Adolescent Sickle Cell Patients and Caregivers

Overview
The purpose of this study is to determine if adolescents with sickle cell disease who screen positive for depression are more likely to have caregivers who also screen positive for depression, and if caregiver depression is linked to personal experiences of childhood trauma.
Description
During a child's regularly scheduled sickle cell clinic visit, the parent will be asked to complete a PHQ-9 depression screen. If the parent screens positive for depression, the parent will then be asked to complete the ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences Survey)
by a member of the study team. The questionnaire will be reviewed by the team’s Chaplain and/or Social Worker,
who will then provide the subject with mental health resources based on your depression screen, and other resources as needed
based on your ACES score.
