Healthy Volunteers Needed!

Overview

We need your help!

What is this study about?
The purpose of the study is to see if using certain substances (tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, pain medicine, other drugs) is linked with elevated blood pressure in the lungs and how patients do over time.

For this study, people who do not have heart or lung problems (or factors which may increase the blood pressure in the lungs) will be compared with people who have elevated blood pressure in the lungs to determine which group may be more affected.

Who can participate?
Adults who do not have a clinical diagnosis of cardiopulmonary disease or other risk factors for pulmonary arterial hypertension. If you're interested in participating please contact: Melissa Astin, mastin@iuhealth.org or Molly Stearns, mstearns2@iuhealth.org.

Description

What happens during study participation?
1.    You will be asked to give us information on a computer about substances you use or have used in the past. The computer may be in our medical clinic, or you may be able to do this from you own computer at home.
2.    If you come to our medical clinic, we will collect a blood sample (< 4 tablespoons) and urine sample. If you want to do this study from your home (called a remote visit), we will send blood, saliva, and urine collection kits to you. You will be trained to collect blood spots/saliva and urine at home which you will ship directly to the lab for analysis.

Incentive/compensation
  • Healthy volunteers will receive $50 for in-person study participation or $35 for completing the study remotely (at home).
