Overview

This study is being conducted to help determine whether specific proteins and other markers in saliva can predict development of taste changes, gum health and diabetes in previously coronavirus-2 infected patients with persistent symptoms or long COVID-19.

Description

Participants will complete one study visit. During this visit, researchers will:

• Confirm your eligibility to participate in this study. 
• Complete taste and smell test procedures
• Collect a sample of saliva
• Perform periodontal (gum disease) examinations
• Take a full set of mouth digital x-rays 
• Total time for the study: about 2 hours 15 minutes

Eligibility

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    COVID-19
  • Age: Between 18 Years - 100 Years
  • Gender: All

Inclusion Criteria:
  • Be ambulatory adults with history of positive testing for SARS-CoV2 for case population Or
  • Be ambulatory adults with no history of SARS-CoV2 positive testing for control group.
  • Be willing to provide saliva and allow access to COVID-19 testing results. 
  • Be willing to undergo a periodontal exam and paper strip taste tests.
Exclusion Criteria:
  • Pregnant women 
  • Persons with HIV or those taking antiretroviral medication
  • Minimum saliva volume:0.5ml.
