Overview

It is hypothesized that participants who are referred to the READY program will report improvements in self-worth and decreased internalizing symptoms at a faster rate as compared to those who participate solely in the weight management program. This project will establish the foundation for future longitudinal research investigations which aim to improve the health of children with obesity, while informing potential quality improvement initiatives.

Description

1. Link patient database in REDCap to pre-existing REDCap database used currently in weight management programming including information from the electronic medical records (e.g. height, weight and BMI z-scores and percentiles, comorbid conditions, current medications and therapies).
2. Implement a standardized screening algorithm to evaluate participants with overweight and/or obesity and detect psychiatric comorbidities (e.g., depression and anxiety) while concurrently measuring self-worth.
3. Analyze data to inform future quality improvement initiatives.
4. Distribute results to the Peds GI Department and inform the relevant literature.
