Overview

We want to learn more about the long-term effects of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) on the brain and blood vessels of patients with sickle cell disease. We want to understand: how the brain looks on scans, how it functions and what brain complications develop with BMT for sickle cell disease. We also want to learn more about quality of life before and after BMT, and how you experience pain.

Description

The researchers will ask participants some health related quality of life (HRQoL) questions and have some neurocognitive testing performed at 10 study visits over 3 years. Participants can choose to participate in optional studies to collect blood samples and store those blood samples for future research. Siblings can also choose to participate by providing a single blood sample.
