Overview
What is this study about?
The goal of this study is to assess whether music listening can be used to treat language and attention difficulties experienced by people with aphasia.
Who can take part?
Adults with aphasia following a stroke or other brain injury.
Description
What happens during study participation?
- The study will take 2-3 hours and can be completed in 1-2 sessions
- During the study, participants will have their attention and language assessed before and after they listen to happy, sad or no classical music for 10 minutes.
- The attention and language tasks are non-invasive and involve making decisions about words, sentences and pictures that you can see and hear.
- The study can be conducted at the ABC (Purdue Campus) or virtually over secure Zoom.
Incentive/compensation
- Eligible participants will be compensated $20 per hour. If seen virtually, payment will be in the form of Amazon Gift cards.

Eligibility
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

Conditions:
aphasia, stroke

Age: Between 18 Years - 100 Years

Gender: All
Inclusion Criteria:
- Persons with aphasia after stroke
- Native English Speaker
- 18 years or older
- If completing the study virtually, participants must have access to laptop or desktop computer with a stable internet connection
Exclusion Criteria:
- Individuals who dislike listening to music.
- Individuals that meet the inclusion criteria, but are unwilling to travel to the ABC Lab at Purdue University for in person testing OR do not have a laptop or desktop in which they could participate
- Individuals with a dementia diagnosis or pre brain injury/stroke attention disorder
Further eligibility will be determined following a phone screener.
